With its visual flair and endless charm Yoshi’s Story remains one of the most iconic titles to ever grace the Nintendo 64. This made it easier than ever to nab enemies and items alike, while running past the game’s plentiful perils. Yoshi’s Story retained all the character’s trademark moves, but now allowed players to stick out Yoshi’s tongue in any direction. However, behind the makeover in the graphics department, Yoshi was still the same dinosaur the world had come to love. Every world is designed to look like it was lovingly crafted from construction paper and craft store materials, making Yoshi’s Story one of the most visually distinctive games ever produced. Each of its 24 pastel-colored levels looks as though it was coded on cotton candy. To call this game adorable would be an understatement. Much like Donkey Kong Country before it, Yoshi’s Story is filled with gorgeous computer rendered sprites to give it an unmatched level of polish. This is due in no small part to it being one of the few 2D games for the system. This Nintendo 64 successor to the SNES’ Yoshi’s Island remains one of the best looking games ever released for the N64.
